The Artist
Born in India and based in Vienna, E'dna ( Edna’s DNA refers to her unique perception of reality ) creates large-format abstract paintings that bridge two rich cultural traditions. Her work draws from the vibrant colors, textures, and rhythms of the Indian subcontinent, filtered through the lens of European abstract expressionism.
Known by her nickname Sona — meaning “Gold” in Hindi — her paintings are characterized by their warm, luminous gold and metallic palettes. The distinctive “Layer-drag” technique which focuses on gesture, surface tension and material choreography. Creating mesmerizing layers of color that reveal hidden depths.
Each canvas is a meditation on memory, place, and the interplay of light and color — from the bustling crowds of Rajasthan to the soft purple horizons in the lavender fields of southern Provence, from the fluid turquoise Caribbean sea to the serene paddy fields of rural India, from the blue city of Jodhpur to the electric citylights of Mumbai.
“I paint what I remember, not what I see. The Layer-drag drags the memory across the canvas, blurring it into something between reality and dream.”
— E'dna
